The iconic Upper Crust Mural
In April 1979, Sharon and Joe Carollo first opened the doors of their family run Upper Crust Pizza and Pasta, and a tradition was born. Located at the end & Mission Street – next stop Davenport – this Westside Santa Cruz pizzeria has flourished because of their unique, Sicilian square pizza as well as their other authentic Italian food: homemade pasta dishes; the best oven-baked sandwiches; thin-crust pizzas, and their over-the-top, tasty, Sicilian, muffaletta sandwiches.
Upper Crust’s environment is casual and friendly. A key reason this Santa Cruz pizza restaurant has been been a mainstay for locals for more than three decades: families with kids; UCSC students; local businesses; youth sports teams; active people of all ages who are on the go.
Over the years, thousands of visitors have counted themselves fortunate to have found refuge at Upper Crust Pizza & Pasta Santa Cruz while enjoying a “great slice and a good beer” before hitting the road. Residents of Carmel, Monterey, Watsonville, Los Gatos, San Jose, San Francisco, and further points north know that there’s a true locals’ pizzeria, located at the end of Mission Street — or at the beginning of Mission Street, if you’re heading south from Highway 1 — where good food and good cheer can be had at this family run Italian eatery.
